MEIS were appointed by Terence Ponsonby Ltd to deliver the M&E Services associated with the Energy Pathfinder Initiative at this 1000+ pupil community school in Knocklyon, Dublin. The school is a buzzing hive of activity all year round, opening it’s doors during school holiday periods to a multitude of group activities and community support events.

The aim of the project was to reduce the energy input in the school which involved upgrades such as new BEMS systems, lighting and heating controls, a new plant room, ASHP installations and MVHR ventilation.

The school curriculum brought significant challenges to our engineers in terms of programme management and co-ordination of critical works such as heating and power shutdowns. MEIS worked closely with the client to ensure minimal disruption to school life and the project was successfully commissioned and handed over in October 2025.

The Pathfinder Partnership Programmes focus on supporting energy efficiency and decarbonisation building retrofit in Primary and Post Primary Schools. The main objective is to implement a range of deeper energy, retrofit and renewable heating solutions in schools. This requires us to test approaches, build best practice and capacity to develop a replicable scalable energy retrofit model for the building stock which will help deliver on the sectors energy and decarbonisation targets.
